Just Sun

I have always loved the outdoors, but my relationship with the sun changed forever after I lost my father to melanoma. That loss was a turning point for me. It shifted my perspective entirely; sun protection was no longer just another item I packed for vacation —it became a vital mission to keep my family safe year round. After learning conventional sunscreens were filled with chemicals that were posing hazards to my health, I turned towards natural options. Most of what I found was either ineffective, made us look like ghosts, or it was that thick, chalky mineral cream that is impossible to rub in. I knew there had to be a better way, so I started making it myself.. 

Ultimately, I was my first customer. I realized that if I was struggling to find a product that felt good and worked well, others must be too. I decided to create exactly what I desired for myself, and eventually thought that everyone should have access to what I had created. I wasn't looking to start a corporation; I just wanted a healthier option for me and my family. 

I spent years obsessing over those early formulas, using my kitchen as a laboratory. I remember taking my first successful batches down to the California sun to really put them to the test. I needed to know if a mineral-based formula could truly stand up to that kind of intense heat without feeling heavy. It was in those moments, seeing the formula perform while leaving the skin feeling nourished and soft, that I realized I had something special. 

But the road from the kitchen to the shelf was far from easy. Mineral sunscreen is incredibly technical and highly regulated. It took two and a half years of rigorous testing and lab time just to get my first Health Canada license. There were many times I wanted to toss in the towel, but something inside always whispered, "keep going." Today, that persistence has paid off: we now hold four Health Canada licenses and an award-winning flagship product. 

That is where the name Just Sun came from. For me, "Just" represents two things: simplicity and trustworthiness. I wanted a brand that focused on being "just" what you need—simple and honest. On a deeper level, Just Sun represents family. I care for my products and my customers as if they are my own family members. I take great pride in making exceptional products that perform with excellence while feeling like a luxury on the skin. To achieve that, I turned to antioxidant-rich botanicals like red raspberry seed oil, argan oil, and seabuckthorn. I wanted our sunscreens to go on smoothly and effortlessly. Zero white cast, non-greasy; something that we could all reach for daily. 

Looking back, if I could give my younger self one piece of advice, it would be to slow down and not rush decisions - let the answers come not in urgency. I've made a lot of mistakes along the way, but it’s all growth and lessons at this point, plus a little of her ( this business) who’s become a part of me in the best way. I feel her caring for me like I care for her. My values run deep in the business I’ve created, and I couldn’t be more proud and happier to share these offerings with you. Just Sun is about making protection effortless, honest, and kind—so we can all focus on what really matters: making memories in the light with the people we love.
